Since ICICI bank was established after 1991 it offers online banking where you can check the balance in your account any time. The interface for savings accounts is much better and user friendly compared to that for their roaming current account

However, unlike other banks like HDFC bank,  their online bank statement does not indicate the branch at which the amount is deposited. The information is available in the email statement sent to you the next day. You have to contact phone banking , enter CRN and TPIN, during working hours to get this information. Very often, the system is slow, so you have to hold on for 10 minutes.

Newspapers have reported that people have lost their balance when money was transferred from their account by hackers. Recently ( in February  2006) , their website  was cloned and their customers received phishing emails .

 It is advisable to let your transaction password expire, so that you face no risk from hackers.  However for current accounts, if you let your transaction password expire, you cannot access any information, even your account statement. They charge Rs 50 to reset the password everytime. You are supposed to reset all passwords after 90 days and think of very unique passwords.

One of  features of the  Roaming  current account advertised by  ICICI  bank in newspapers is that they provide a free daily email statement.  We were receiving the email statement fairly regularly on weekdays till 31.1.2006.  However, we have suddenly stopped receiving the statement from February  1, 2006. We have registered at least 15 complaints - complaint numbers SR41115688  ------------- SR 41142342 (registered on 10.2.2006 , no action taken yet) through email and phone banking. When we complain through phone banking , we are told that the statement has been regenerated and sent. However these statements seem to disappear magically. Current status

There seems to be no problem with registered email id (a VSNL email id)  since I am receiving replies from corporatecare@icicibank.com  and other emails without any problem. There seems to be either a network problem with ICICI bank server or our account statements are being intercepted by some unidentified hacker.

Update : After complaining daily for 20 days, I finally told ICICI bank and VSNL that I would be complaining to the cyber crime cell of the Mumbai police,  since there was no problem with either ICICI or  VSNL email server. ICICI bank said that I could send a request for an additional email address, to which they would send the email statement. Then almost magically, I started receiving all the email statements. It appears that the hacker deleting my emails was not too keen on an encounter with the Mumbai police. There seems to be a problem with VSNL servers/antivirus software

One of  my customers was trying to transfer an amount from his ICICI bank savings bank account to my current account. I provided information like account number, branch and account name. He was getting an error during online  transfer because account number (12 digit) was too long. When  ICICI  coporate phone banking was contacted, I  was told that the systems for savings account and current account are different, and he should contact customer care for savings account.
